State Regulations impacting City of Ripon Solid Waste Management
Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) is a statewide organic waste recycling unfunded mandate passed by the State of California legislature in 2016 that is intended to reduce organic waste in landfills. The City of Ripon is required to develop a solid waste collection plan that addresses disposal of organic waste material that meets the requirements of this State Law.
Commercial Garbage and Recycling Regulations
Will there be changes to my current garbage service??
How your household disposes of garbage and your current can service will not change. However, Ripon Public Works staff will now haul black can waste to a high-diversion organic waste processing facility instead of directly to the landfill. After evaluating a number of options to comply with SB 1383, the City of Ripon found this option to have the lowest impact to garbage rates.
How is the City of Ripon recycling organics as mandated by SB 1383?Black Cans - Household Garbage
Residents are provided with a standard 90-gallon black trash can by the City, which is picked up on a weekly basis.
Standard 90 Gallon Black Can
Standard Black Cans are 90 gallons and intended for household garbage only. If regular collection day is a holiday, the garbage will be collected the following day. Failure to comply with the regulations will result in a "go back" charge to your account.
Extra Dump of Standard 90 Gallon Black Can
Extra Dumps of your standard 90 gallon black can are available to residents. The current cost is $20.05 for one can. If you have multiple black cans as part of your regular service, the extra dump fee on each can is $5.30 after the initial $20.05 for the first can. To schedule this service, use the online link Request for Extra Dump of Garbage Can.

All grass clippings should be placed in the Green can which is available for $3.40 per month.
Green cans are picked up on Mondays unless it's a holiday-then they will be collected on the Friday of that week.
Any resident needing pick up of yard waste throughout the year (other than during October 15 - January 7) may place brush on the street at curb sides for a minimum cost of $64.70, depending on size. To schedule a pick up use the online link Request for Brush Pick-up.

USE YOUR GREEN WASTE BIN WHEN POSSIBLE
- To help keep curbs clean, reduce clutter and keep gutters and storm drains clear for proper drainage use your green waste bin when possible.
- Small piles of yard debris should be placed in your green waste bin for collection on your regular green waste pickup day.
- The street sweeper is unable to collect small piles of leaves or leaves blown into the street. Such debris may potentially damage sweeper equipment or clog its system, or disperse it further thereby reducing operational efficiency. Consequently, these areas may be bypassed during routine cleaning.
NO NEED TO CALL – CREWS FOLLOW A COLLECTION ROUTE
- There’s no need to contact City Hall to request a pick-up.
- Public Works crews follow a scheduled collection route and will visit each street. Collection times will vary depending on volume and workload.
- If your pile is not picked up right away, please leave it at the curb — it will be collected once the crew reaches your area as part of the regular route.
