Chief Sauer attended the Police Academy in Modesto at the Ray Simon Regional Criminal Justice Training Center, graduating in June 2002. He was hired by the Ripon Police Department soon after in July. Just 2 years later he was assigned to the Investigations Division as a Detective. He quickly became a Field Training Officer passing on his training and experience to newly hired officers. He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2013 and continued to excel in his career. In 2018, he was promoted to Police Lieutenant overseeing major divisions within the Police Department. On September 18, 2023, he became the 11th Police Chief for the City of Ripon.
Throughout his career, Chief Sauer has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality of police services, and has proven to be a strong leader displayed by his integrity and exceptional decision-making skills.
