In October 2023, the Stanislaus River Bike & Pedestrian Bridge sustained severe damage during a powerful windstorm, necessitating extensive repairs. Following a comprehensive inspection by a qualified structural engineer, it was determined that a new segment would need to be constructed to replace the damaged section.
It was found that the segment could only be built by the original builder of the bridge. In April 2024, the City initiated the process for the manufacturing of the new bridge segment. The new segment is scheduled to be completed and delivered in the first quarter of 2025. It will be meticulously designed to meet all necessary structural and safety standards.
The cost of the repairs was covered by a City insurance claim, Stanislaus County, City of Ripon, and the San Joaquin Council of Governments. This collaboration underscores the importance of restoring the bridge to a safe and functional state for the benefit of all community members who rely on it for pedestrian and cycling activities.
As the repair project progresses, the City is committed to providing regular updates and ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding area. Our priority is to complete the repairs efficiently and effectively while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety.
