San Joaquin County is located in Central Valley of the U.S. state of California, just east of the San Francisco Bay Area.

San Joaquin County was one of the original counties of California, created in 1850 at the time of statehood. The county took its name from the San Joaquin River which flows from the Sierra Nevada mountains on the east, through the county and finally draining into the San Francisco Bay.

Ripon is located in the southern section of San Joaquin County, and is bordered by the Stanislaus River. This river separates San Joaquin County from Stanislaus County.
